Commercials, branded content, and print ads are beginning to feature more diversity, inclusion, and even interracial couples.Personally, I am skeptical, but I am a black man--- I recognize and accept my bias on this subject matter.Second, the fact that black women (arguably women of color across the board) are the only ones dating outside their race. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, of the 559,000 Americans employed in advertising and communications in 2015, less than half are women, 5.3% are black, 6% are Asian and 11.7% are Hispanic.These are generalizations, of course, but they are attitudes that I've personally encountered.Skepticism towards black men/white women relationships is a longstanding and well-documented part of our cultural fabric in America. I'm not a "black man" who "dates white women." I'm a person.
I also hate the weird sense of “duty” that is often batted around in these conversations, as if you’re somehow betraying an entire race by dating outside of it, disparaging your ancestors in the process.
